Numerous educational conferences take place on a regular basis during the monthly schedule, augmenting the knowledge gained while on clinical service. Twice weekly patient review meetings take place with all faculty and fellows, during which interesting topics and patient management questions are brought up for discussion with the entire department. Weekly meetings with the High Risk Maternal-Fetal Medicine Staff at University Hospital enable the fellows to learn about upcoming high-risk deliveries and pertinent management issues. In addition, the weekly Fellow Core Lecture Series in Neonatology covers basic neonatology principles and concepts. This conference is organized by the fellows and utilizes the expertise at Riley Hospital to discuss neonatal medicine in depth. The bi-monthly Neonatal Research Series allows the fellows and faculty to share their research in a more formal setting, expanding one another's familiarity with the research carried out by the section. The weekly fellows meeting with the director allows the fellows an opportunity to discuss issues related to the training program and also share research.
A monthly mortality review conference and a monthly Pediatric General Surgery - Neonatology conference also take place. There are also weekly pediatric grand rounds and pediatric patient management lectures. The fellows take part in all of these conferences and lectures as part of their formal education, and occasionally may present topics at one or more of these meetings to the rest of the faculty. Neonatology Fellows also may attend two national meetings each year.
